Capt. Barry Marine
As soon as I realized there was water, my interest began to grow; there was a burning desire to somehow participate.
My very first boating adventure took place in Asbury Park, New Jersey. There were motorboats we could rent that you could accelerate and steer; I was hooked. After all, I was 5 years old and ready for the sea.
I had to learn more so I jumped into a rowboat on the shore of a small lake. I could only reach one oar, quickly realized what going in circles was all about and figured out how to control the direction of the boat.
My family moved to a lake front property in New Jersey in the late 50s. I was given a broken down speed boat by a relative and spent the winter in the garage repairing it. It required a complete rebuild from the power plant to the mahogany hull. I dropped her in the lake in early spring and got her up to a blazing 50+ mph!
I Joined the Marines in 1964, became a fire fighter and continued my interest in boats and heavy equipment. Fortunately I was stationed in Hawaii most of my service time and it was easy to participate in water activities. It was there that I became familiar with heavy equipment and this education was invaluable --I now understood big machines and what makes them tick.
After attending Newark State Teachers' College, I moved to California in 1971, directly to Marina del Rey. The company that hired me, gave me the use of their 38 foot Chris Craft Commander, a twin engine, wooden hull, coastal ocean boat.
My interests expanded into a successful career in Real Estate and Finance. During that time I also operated three restaurants and would have my chef prepare gourmet food for guests aboard my yacht. I sensed the demand for a high caliber, gourmet, yachting experience. Hence the Marina Luxury Yacht Company was organized.
The saga continues and today I own and operate one of the most sophisticated ocean-going express yachts.
I also keep a hand in the entertainment world, having performed from the age of 10 as a vocalist, studying under the professional guidance of Charles Lowe in New York and continuing here in Los Angeles with Jim Crisafulli. I can be seen (and heard) at one of several venues in Los Angeles and Baja California.on any given night.
